Servicing Edmonton
Chiropractors
Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating conditions of the muscles, joints, and nervous system with a special focus on the spine. At our Edmonton clinics, our Chiropractors develop personalized treatment plans that address the root cause of your pain, not just the symptoms.
Chiropractic treatment can help with a wide range of conditions, including:
- Acute and chronic back and neck pain
- Migraine headaches
- Other types of pain and strain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Sciatica
- Whiplash
- Sports injuries
and more!
How Chiropractic Care Supports Your Health
Chiropractic Care focuses on the spine, muscles, joints, and nervous system to address the root causes of pain and restricted movement. By restoring proper alignment and movement chiropractic adjustments and targeted therapies, Chiropractic treatments can help relieve back and neck pain, improve mobility, reduce headaches, and support overall function so you can move and feel better every day.
What to Expect at Your Chiropractic Appointment
New to chiropractic care? You're in good hands at our Edmonton locations.
Your first visit with one of our Edmonton Chiropractors is an assessment that lasts about 45 minutes. During this appointment, a Chiropractor will review your health history, discuss your symptoms — whether you're coming in for back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, whiplash, or a sports injury — and complete an evaluation to identify potential issues with your spine, muscles, joints, or nervous system. This may include posture and movement tests, as well as a hands-on assessment of how your spine moves in relation to the rest of your body. Based on these findings, your Edmonton Chiropractor will explain the diagnosis and recommend a personalized treatment plan.
To help you feel prepared, we’ve created a short video where Dr. Laura Baxter walks you through what to expect at your first chiropractic appointment.
For your comfort, we recommend wearing loose or flexible clothing to your visits.
Follow-up treatments are scheduled for 15 or 30 minutes* , depending on your treatment plan and therapeutic needs.
Chiropractic Care FAQ
The answer is as long as you want to. You are always in control of your care. The Chiropractor will create a clinical treatment plan based on science, experience, cases like yours and your goals. Chiropractic Care is usually divided into blocks. Block one, two and three. Each block of care has different goals that you and the Chiropractor will decide on. Each block has a different frequency and a different duration of care. That is how often you will see the Chiropractor and for how many weeks.
Many clients will initially have positive change in their symptoms. Research shows it takes 12 visits in a short period of time (block one) to create neurological change in the system for long term results.
A progress assessment allows the Chiropractor to provide you with instructions on the next block of care (block two) when improvement is noted. The Chiropractor may suggest maintenance care (block three) at a frequency that works for you.
You are always in control and if you want to see the Chiropractor as needed you can do that. The Chiropractor will offer you suggestions and options that work for you.
Many extended insurance plans do include coverage for therapeutic services like Chiropractic Care. Check your policy for the yearly allowance you are allotted.
Chiropractic Care is usually safe during pregnancy, but when in doubt, ask your midwife, obstetrician or primary care physician.
On average 30 pounds is gained during a pregnancy, with most of it carried in the abdomen. This puts significant strain on the pelvis and back. Chiropractors can help to reduce this pain and increase overall function, as well as provide exercises to help prime your body for childbirth. Chiropractic Care can also help with postpartum recovery, shortening the rehabilitation time your body needs to heal after the baby arrives.
It is an eight year course of study to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Candidates complete an undergraduate program at a recognized university or graduate from CEGEP health program in Quebec. The chiropractic program is a 3-5 year course of study in Canada. There are two accredited chiropractic colleges in Canada. One school in Ontario and one in Quebec.
Massage Therapy is a full body treatment that helps ease the pain related to muscle tension, injury recovery, stress relief or the need for relaxation. Common massage treatments include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Prenatal, Sport and Trigger Point.
Acupuncture involves the placement of thin needles that are hand-inserted into specific acupoints to access your body’s meridians to help relieve pain and improve your overall well-being.
Chiropractic Care most often uses hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments. Proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication.
Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific reflex zones in the feet or hands to help energize the body, relieve tension and promote relaxation.
Variations in time utilized by Chiropractors at follow up appointments are to be expected and will vary according to a Chiropractor’s specific approach to practice, your specific treatment needs, or the specific condition being treated.
For instance, during a 15-minute follow-up treatment, one client might simply need an adjustment, wrapping up the treatment within minutes. Conversely, another client's needs might necessitate the full 15 minutes to address their condition effectively.
So, the treatment time identified at booking is the maximum appointment time allotted, and actual treatments, based on your specific therapeutic needs and treatment plan, may be shorter.
